Classified scientifically as Acer griseum, this medium-sized maple is native to China and began to gain popularity in North America in the early 20th century. Paperbark maple holds a distinct beauty in winter, thanks to its rustic-colored bark. Of course, that is after a brilliant display of deep scarlet and/or burnt orange leaves in fall.
