Pansy

At the top of any fall flower list, pansies are delicate in appearance yet sturdy in their ability to withstand winter. In fact, they actually prefer cold weather over the heat and humidity of summer.

Pansies belong to the Viola genus and are sometimes referred to as violas themselves. Their flowers are characterized by bright colors and five overlapping petals, often with a dark center that resembles a face. They require minimal care and are not as prone to pests as many other plants.

Plant pansies in beds and containers for pops of color in fall. Keep in mind that they prefer moist soil, partial sun and frequent watering. You will also want to remove dead blooms to allow new growth.
