This shrub typically prefers cooler temperatures, which explains why rhododendron bushes are most frequently found in northern parts of the U.S. such as the Great Lakes, the Pacific Northwest, New England and the Mid-Atlantic. However, there are more than 1,000 species of rhododendron, some of which can be grown in Southern California, Texas, Florida, and even Hawaii.
