Whether your backyard is modest and cozy or grand and sprawling, there is nothing more rewarding than being able to relax and embrace your own outdoor space. It’s one of the greatest joys of homeownership and a luxury hard-earned.
While you will have many “wants” for your landscaping—perhaps water and fire features or an outdoor kitchen—let’s start with the “needs.” Before you invite guests over, make sure you have addressed:
1. Safety
Is your outdoor space safe and easy to navigate? Walkways are a must in order to protect people and plants alike. High Tech Landscapes can build garden paths, steps and other transitional features ensuring clear passage around the perimeter of your home and hosting areas. Bring your creative vision to the design process—or leave it to us!
2. Lighting
Another key feature for safety is landscape lighting, with the added benefit being that it can double as a design element. In fact, custom lighting is one of our top landscaping trends for 2020. From our previous article:
“Lighting designers are finding new ways to conceal LED fixtures, further enhancing the ambiance that lighting can bring. Add in programmable options such as timers and motion sensors, and it’s clear to see that lighting is becoming an integral part of landscape design.”
3. Privacy
They say that good fences make good neighbors. Even if you get along fabulously with everyone on your street, you will still want at least a little bit of privacy in your yard or garden (especially if you plan to host frequently). That said, you don’t necessarily want to build an imposing or isolating structure. Consider planting trees to section off your space. Bonus: They provide much-needed shade in summer. Just be sure to invest in ongoing tree service.
4. Scenery
You’ve made it through the basics. Now, it’s time to get to the part where you pretty up your landscape with your favorite flowers and foliage.
